I got my free Telkom modem yesterday, which came with two filters. Oddly, though, there are 2 phone out sockets. I guess this is just as a convenience, in case you have two phones you want to plug in (or a phone and an alarm)?

I do wish that it came with a splitter or two, though, because I'd like to have my router and a phone plugged into the same jack - and I'd think that this is what most people would want to do. Guess they make more money selling them separately :( But it means even more little boxes and cables, and looks a bit messy.

The filter I had in the UK was great - it was a filter and splitter combined, so it had one line in socket, and then a phone out and an adsl out socket (presumably the filtering only happened on the phone out part). I was hoping to use it here, but it seems that the UK phone socket is a different shape to ours :( Pity, because it was really convenient to have it all in one compact little box!

New installations come with a bigger "box" on the wall, with 2 inputs, so it caters for the modem and the little filter. And then the filter has 2 outputs, so you can use the phone and alarm or whatever from there.

I had to buy a slitter because I wanted the same thing. About 10 bucks or so. But, yeah, it does look a bit messy!
