hi guys,
after searching around a lot, and not that much help in my previous topic, i decided on 2 ISP's.
Lets hear your opinions.

Requirement: uncapped usage of about 100gigs a month
Openweb or Afrihost or Mweb

Openweb
After Hours Uncapped
4Mb after hours R899
cons: 200gigs shaping

Afrihost
4Mb R497pm
Cons...the 60 gigs shaping

Mweb
4Mb for R599
cons...shaping...not too clear in fine print

so, those are the last two.
please advise guys.

mweb, and they dont have an - X marks the spot - shaping policy because thats just ****ing stupid. ISP's pay for International Links by the Mbit/Year. If your with Mweb rocking 720p video at 0100 in the morning, and they have idle pipes sitting around doing nothing... its all yours. Much better solution than denying you idle bandwidth just standing there (paid for) like these other dufusus because your ticker went past click.

Afrihost don't shap you after 60gigs anymore that was the old terms. Just talking from personal experience here but i was shaped to hell after 15gigs -_-

There is also OpenWeb's Lite Uncapped unshaped option.

LITE UNCAPPED ADSL (NEW!)

Lite Uncapped, is an entry level uncapped, unshaped package that offers low to medium usage users a Premium speed at an affordable rate. For R495/month.
Account Information

The account is UNSHAPED.

* Fair Usage Policy:
Users are divided into two groups. 80% and 20%. 80% of the user base will always experience full speed access, with no shaping. 20% of the user base will be shaped. The fair usage policy on our Lite accounts is dynamic. Low to mid range users will always experience unshaped, superior access.

Why Lite?

If you are a gamer, and do not download 24 / 7, Lite offers you unshaped ADSL access, which allows you to enjoy the benefits of the internet without being slowed down. VOIP works Great. Don't get us wrong, P2P and torrents will be a breeze, until you enter the 20% bracket, upon which they will be drastically shaped.

For our heavy downloaders, we would suggest the After Hours Uncapped, Unshaped ADSL account for R899, or our 4Mbps Gold Uncapped for R738.

** PLUS is a new type of account that allows more bang for your buck. It is unshaped, and has a much higher threshold than the smaller accounts. This account is perfect for Small businesses, and home users looking for the cheapest Unshaped, Uncapped option!

Note: Pricing does NOT include Telkom ADSL line rental.

Don't touch afrihost. They literally shape 4MB lines from 15GB onwards.

Afrihost should be good if you stay within their shaping thresholds, which are probably a bit too close to 100Gb (might actually be exactly that, definitely check the latest T&C on their site).

MWeb won't give you problems in terms of abuse or anything while you're around 100GB (or even 3-4 times that some months, so I wouldn't worry), but their shaping is quite harsh all round. You could still easily do far over 100Gb a month and all your http stuff is full speed which is nice. Also the rep here is pretty good.

Those are the only two I've used.

OpenWeb should be nice in that it's mostly unshaped after hours as I understand, but I don't know whether it's worth the price premium when you'll only be uncapped after hours and subject to that 200Gb limit as you say. I'd say if you're going to have to do your downloads after hours in any case on this account and be restricted to 200GB plus capped during the day then it hardly sounds better than MWeb at all never mind paying an extra R300 a month for it.

Then there's the OpenWeb Lite, which is interesting but only if you know you're not going to be in the top 20%. And even at 100Gb I would ask.. who IS in the top 20%? Every downloader knows that they will be there, so why would they use this package? This leaves a pretty low average usage on a new product if you ask me, and then the shaping will be really bad, especially if they're admitting it.

I can only comment on Afrihost's uncapped.
In short.............. use at own risk.
I see some only got shaped from about 15GB onwards, I got shaped and throttled from 1MB (not exaggerating).

Currently I'm on Openweb's 4MB Gold and I'm quite happy with them.
