Telkom FINALLY decided to install my ADSL line :) but now i need an internet account and ISP? Im looking to go with DO broadband, since i am new to the ADSL world i need to know some things...

1) What do i need now to get started with my internet?
2) If i go with do broadband will it come with everything i need?
3)is it possible to get all i need and my do broadband ISP running by tom night?

over the weekend is a bit harder... but you might wanna let us know more about yourself.

What are you going to be using the internet for? How much you looking at downloading? What's your budget? Do you need local as well as international? What's your line speed?

If you're new to broadband and need customer service go for web africa or mweb, but you're going to be paying a lot more than if you go for something more DIY like afrihost, perhaps G-Connect, although you'll save a lot of money.

It's really not that difficult, just have to setup your username and password with which they provide you with.

Broadband account comes with cap, that's all they give you, and perhaps an email address.

I guess you could be running with dobroadband from telkom, they're not badly priced and even though I think everyone on this forum would rather not feed the monopoly, we all should know that telkom ISP isn't actually that bad after all.
So I could suggest going for that, it'l be the easiest to do.

1) What do i need now to get started with my internet?
you need
1) a router
2) line rental.
3) a service provider.

The line rental is your fixed R139 a month fee for the privilege of an adsl line
You can get your line rental through telkom or another company such as axxess.
I use axxess because they are about ten bucks cheaper a month and their help desk is 24 hours and there is never a wait, where as telkoms help desk sometimes takes forever.

now you need a service provider, who you can purchase your bandwidth through.
Both telkom and Axxess provide bandwidth, but I prefer to use Afrihost, as their per gig rate is a lot cheaper and they often run a buy one get one free special, where you end up paying 14.50 a gig. (Compared with +-R70 with larger service providers)

So I pay axxess every month to rent the line, and afrihost for the bandwidth- both have debit orders on my account.

who you want to use will depend on how much you want to spend every month, what you want to do with the internet and how much bandwidth you intend using.

In order to set up your account, you need to go into your routers settings, and insert a few details- but your service provider will walk you through that.

that is all you need to know.

2) If i go with do broadband will it come with everything i need?

yes, but they are not very cost effective IMHO

3)is it possible to get all i need and my do broadband ISP running by tom night?

theoretically it should be possible, but you never know- I applied for ADSL and it took a month, but they had to activate my line first. If your line is already activated then you may be okay...

oh yeah one more thing, never sign a 12/24 month contract for internet, whether its for adsl or 3G. Only ever take a month to month contract. Things are changing so much, at the moment, you want to keep your options open...

dobroardband bundles the account and the adsl line, i'd suggest it if you're planning to make use of the local. it's not quite the right time to go for a contract, but i undertand there isn't always cash to buy a router. if that be the case though you must stay away from mweb, because the router they give you is locked to only work with their isp .
pop into a local telkom direct shop

If you have the cash DoBroadband 3 is a good option its R558/pm and includes line rental 5 gigs international (R28/gig in bundle) and 30/50 gigs local i can't quite remember just make sure you get your 4meg line activated with it.

For simplicity sake its probably the easiest but you get Isp's with better per gig prices. eg MyIsp 5gigs for R100
