Received fron Sentech:

Dear Sir/Madam

1) Due to its commercial non-viability, Sentech has discontinued providing the MyWireless Classic range.

2) We have attempted on numerous occasions to contact you via the telephone contact details, which appear on the contract, to no avail.

3) As a result of us not offering the Classic range any longer, we are able to offer you to migrate onto the Flexi range. There are different options available for the Flexi range, which are to be found on our website. Kindly view the different available options to enable you to determine which option is most suited to your usage.

4) Should you decide not to migrate to the Flexi range by 30 November 2006, this letter constitutes 1 (one) month's written notice that your contract will be terminated in terms of clause 4, read with clause 11.5 of the contract.

5) In the event that you migrate to the Flexi range, a new contract will be entered into with you. In this regard, kindly contact 011-993-5051 to prepare the new contract.

Yours faithfully
SENTECH LIMITED

So firstly well done Sentech for finally realising that you have a contract.

Then lets look at the letter.

1: The initial releases said that no more classic contracts would be opened and that existing customers could remain but would have to pay 50c per MB after the 10G 20G or 40G cap was reached.

2: Lies. You have contacted me (and recorded the call) and you were told that I was happy with the existing contract and was not interested in moving.

3: I have no idea as to my useage. I have never been able to log on to your website to the relevant page. In your press release you stated that 85% of customers would be better off by changing. Your tariffs on your website would tend to suggest otherwise. At 3G per month ADSL is a much better option or perhaps IBurst with a continuing service at reduced speeds. There is no way that I would sign up for a systm with PUNITIVE charges for exceeding the limit.

4: At last you are adhering to the contract, although a registered letter to my address would ensure that you could prove that you had sent it.

5: I will be contacting you, but also investigating my options. Do not expect me as a customer for much longer.

Ahahah same here billy i havent been able to view my usage page for almost a month and when i can i get conflicting amounts from 0MB used upto 15gb of usage !!!!!

I got an email too. Sadly, it was nearly 4 weeks after my contract was terminated, and almost two months after their first phone call.

Yeah, got my letter to....

This after having spoken to 2 call agents telling them i will not migrate and even after speaking to a third representative, Carlos i think.

Still got a month's worth of usage though. It's 30 days from letter... Then I will be cancelling personal and office contracts...

Was this letter actually address to anyone?, does it actually contain a contract number etc?

Pathetic
Good Point! No what you see is what I got. No references names or numbers. Which means it proably is not a "Legal" notice. It was sent to an old MNet EMail addresss which we still use.

Didn't they send this exact same message to someone else?

Also, nothing screams professionalism like their inability to use a numbered list (they type it out manually), spell, use correct grammar or send hard copies of letters on a properly addressed letterhead. And so on.

Interesting. I received this e-mail today:

Dear Sir / Madam,

In or about August / September 2006 Sentech via its call centre contacted you to inform you of the end of the MyWireless Classic range and the option to migrate to MyWireless Flexi.

As recorded and noted you requested to cancel your service with Sentech.

This letter serves as confirmation that your MyWireless Classic contract has been canceled as per your request.

Should you require any additional information or wish to continue with MyWireless Flexi option / service, please contact our call centre on 0860 Sentech (7368324)

Thank You
Sentech Customer Care

And my reply:
I want to make certain things quite clear:
1. I have *not* cancelled my service with Sentech and not requested this be done.
2. If you wish the service to be cancelled you must do so.
3. In terms of our contract this must be done in writing with one calendar month's notice.
4. You might be willing to waive this clause, but I am not.
5. I made this clear to one of your call staff, S........... on Thursday 19/10.
6. She spoke to a superior and informed me that this was agreed and I would be receiving written notice for the end of November.
7. I have yet to receive this notice.

I repeat, I have not requested that you cancel my service and you may not cancel it until such time as you have provided me with due written notice.

The logic here of course boggles the mind. Sentech must be the only ISP in the world actually increasing its prices - and by as much as 400% in my case.
Once we're gone, they're going to be in an even worse financial situation as the overheads won't also have gone away. I thought this was a volume game as in critical mass. Sentech clearly think otherwise so they're either extremely clever or a bunch of incompetent, self-delusionary fools. Take your pick.

DSL, make the move now

I used to be a Sentech user but thankfully had to cancel my contract when I moved because of lack of coverage. Anyways, after serious consideration I moved to Telkom DSL and I've never looked back. As we all know. when Sentech worked it worked well and when it broke, well I'm sure you all know the story by now...

I moved to iBurst, and I haven't looked back either.

Throw my vote in for incompetent, stupid fools. I mean really... it's like they're trying to ruin thier chances. Midnight tonight sees them disconnect probably about half of their users (because of cancelled contracts).

oooh look another letter received today

Still unaddressed, still factually a lie, still refering to section 11.5 which doesn't apply, and still ignoring section 14 of the contract.

not withstanding an unclear terms of notice.

D'uh

by law they can't....

If letters have only come out now, no matter how pathetic they are, it is 30 days notice from the time of written notice.
