with certain generations come certain cars that that generation is prepared to pay for, and the supie and IS appeals to the generation X so to speak, the cars they grew up with

So that's the appeal for you, it's emotional. Makes sense. I don't really have that when it comes to cars. I think I might be missing out a bit. Although I would not mind owning an e36 6 cylinder bmw at some stage, doesn't even need to be an M.

I'd pay a decent amount (well if I had more than the R135 in my bank account right now) for a mint condition 98/99 Impreza STi (Sure I'd love a 22B and it'd make my 10 car garage but they go for well over a million).

the appeal for me is more economic, the rarity and the fact it doesn't lose value coupled with the performance sort of solves the constraint usually faced with performance cars- finding cheap cars that are reliable and fast

the only problem is that I advertised the car for 95k, and got a lot more than that

but this is coming from a guy that spent 150k on a 130kw polo and then sold it for 70k

Incorrect.

Was paid R95k by insurance for my written off 80 in 2011, was in excellent condition shortly before the tree fell on it while going at 100 km/h.

Now a 100/105 at that price would be a POS though.

80 series (4.5) in good condition are scarce. They go for more than 95k these days. Probably around 135k plus.

There are a few 4x4s where the book value is way below. Have a 20 year old XJ here. Book value is probably somewhere around 30. I could easily sell it for double.
