I've been running it for almost 2yrs with no problems, but lately its crawling.

My C:\Windows\Installer has 4.9GB of files in it, are these windows updates?

Is there away to get them to install after reinstalling Vista? I don't want to redownload them again!

Arg, I have to re-install as well, but am trying to postpone as long as possible... Hardware changes eg mobo and display card... :)

I am able to use my local cap to download windows updates. Don't know if someone else has the same luck?!?! So I don't mind downloading them again. If those are updates, they include updates pre-sp1 as well, so if you load sp1 after install, I don't think all the updates will be 4.9gigs...

Thanks - I knew there was a thread somewhere... to late now though... Windowz up and running.

C:\Windows\Installer seems to hold various MSI files that came with products you may have installed like Adobe Reader and Nero and so on. That's about all I know about that folder.

Glad to hear Windows is up again, hope it runs well now for ages to come.

save yourself a heart attack and dont go looking at the SxS folder....especially if you have been running vista for a few months with the odd software installation

Where is this folder?

My whole /Windows directory is only 7.1GB after a few months use. :D But it is a Vlite'd install.
