Hey everyone,

So I live in the UK (have for 4 years) and need to financially emigrate. SARS is now sending me emails saying them I owe them an admin penalty of R3000. I haven't submitted a tax return in 4 years and haven't paid any money to SARS for 4 years.

Before anyone says but you owe money to SARS etc etc they can come file a lawsuit in the UK if they want to claim it from me. I have no assets in SA, not even a pension, so there is nothing for them to seize and I'm not paying them a cent.

With that being said, what do I need to financially emigrate? Can an accountant help, and if so, can anyone recommend one? Although I will not pay SARS a cent, I also don't want any headaches when I visit in future. Yes I should have financially emigrated long ago!

Well, you can forget about successfully doing financial emigration if your affairs with SARS isn't in order.

If your case is anything like mine, you probably left at some point during the tax year and didn't think of doing your tax return at the end of that year. My advice: pay the money, get it sorted. This probalem makes babies while you wait.

Afaik what you need to close the books here is basically just... clearance from SARS
