I made the move to mac recently and im finding using finder is not so user friendly as explorer.Im looking for an alternative to mac's finder in the app store? are there any? It seems that path finder is the nearest to the explorer style. I dont have a credit card or paypal so if there is a free one or anything in the app store that is worthy to spend money on please feel free to let me know

You can have it good, user-friendly or free. Pick any two.

I'm not a fan myself, but I know there are people who swear by ForkLift.

What is your beef with Finder, BTW? Maybe we can suggest workarounds.

It's not easy to cut & paste files around the normal cntr c then cntr v does not work in finder i'm just looking for a more user friendle one thats nearest to explorer. How does one pay for these apps without a credit card or paypal?

It took me a while coming from windows but cmd+C(copy), cmd+V(paste), cmd+alt+V(move in lion) is all you need, finder is far better than explorer in many ways to me now.

True, I love the fact that you can drop screenshots onto the clipboard to paste somewhere else. shift+ctrl+command+3 or 4. Timesaver for me.

You guys are misunderstanding me I move alot of files around from various folders to other folders but is not so easy in finder cmd+x and cmd+v does not cut and paste in finder I need to copy a few files then paste then delete the old ones then repeat till in done all I need is a program pref free that can look more like the windows explorer (the planes) and do the cut paste with contexual menus. Is there nothing that can be recommened from the apps store?

Do you need dual folder panes or a side pane with tree/folder view followed by a normal folder view?

Sorry I'm a little confused and I can see you are frustrated :D

I get confused with the statement that you can't copy and paste in finder. For simply copying things back and forth dragging and dropping works just fine. You can open two finder windows and drag stuff from the one to the other. If I want to do heavy lifting I rsync.

I use Path Finder. Not free, but definitely better than Finder. I prefer it to Forklift.

It's a strange oversight for an OS that has a zillion keyboard shortcuts.

No oversight - you can copy and paste, as Sputnik pointed out, and with the usual keyboard shortcuts. However, the OP wants to cut and paste.

yes ponder it should look nearest to that and have the same functions as pathfinder i looked around have you guys worked with theses apps and what would you recommend (Xfloders) , (MuCommander) , (Total Finder)

Hi Champ

I also came from Windows (still work on it at work - bleugh!) and was irritated by there not being a CTRL-X equivalent in the Finder.

BUT you can do the same by click and drag, like so:

If you select a bunch of files (By Shift-click start and end of list of files(like Windows), or CMD-Click for non-contiguous list(like Windows)) then just have another Finder open (CMD-N to open new Finder Window) then drag to destination folder in other Finder Window - now for the good stuff - IF on the same partition, it will actually MOVE the files by default. IF you would rather COPY the files, then hold the CMD key pressed - you will see a green "+" sign displayed, meaning the files will be copied in stead.

Failing that, the next easiest is to use the Terminal and normal UNIX/Linux "mv" (move command).

I hope that helps - I am not 100% sure if I understand your need/requirement though...

Sometimes it is better just doing it in the OS rather than installing 3rd party apps - where possible of course.
