Hi everyone

I am moving into a complex and there is a Telkom line already installed.

Who do I contact to find out what the number is for this line? I want to check what the ADSL line is capable of.

Thanks

If its a recovered line then its irrelevant what the number is.

Is there maybe a Telkom number I can phone from my cellphone and give them the address to get the number or will a new number be allocated when I apply for the line?

I know there was a code we always used to dial into the phone and it then read the number back to you but cannot for the life of me now remember what it was.

Dial 101999 and you might get lucky. If you line has been physically disconnected you'll have to use a neighbour's number.

So, when dialing 101999, an american lady-voice tells me "This call is not covered by your tariff plan", then hangs up.

So now nothing happens when I dial 101999. It just sounds like the line is engaged.

Try telkom.co.za, there is a DSL checker that gives you the availability and max speed for ADSL in your area.

here is the link http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/

I used this to check the approximate addres and it seems the exchange supports 4Mbps, which I was hoping for. Will get Telkom to come and look at the line and hopefully everything is ok.

Thanks for all the help.
