Hi

Me again, I broke something else. Don`t ask how, it`s embarresing but I had to load a second windows to get to my data and now I have to ind my outlooks data files to backup before I can format and reload from the previous windows installation.

I know, it`s wrong, you backup before the time, but I`m like the backyard IT Tech that does everything the wrong way around.

Where will I find them ???? HEELPPP ! Please

Are we talking about Windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista or Windows 7?

go to control panel -> mail and you will find the location there..

oh wait.. never read properly.. you not booting into the windows install with outlook installed... then its like Gary said.. you need to tell us the windows version..

Win 98:

\Windows\Profiles\<user name>\Application Data

\Windows\Profiles\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data

WinXP:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Vista / Win7:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

Win 2010:

In Outlook 2010 the default *.pst location for POP3 accounts in new profiles is My Document\Outlook Files. If you upgraded to Outlook 2010 and kept the old profile, the *.pst file is not moved. IMAP and Outlook Hotmail Connector data files remain in the \local\microsoft\outlook folder

[/B]

WinXP:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

I searched for this, dunno where to find the documents and setting for the old windows ?

TIP - Always do the following to safeguard and ease management of personal data:

i) Create a My Documents folder on a separate drive/partition
2) Move all the personal data to the non-system partition (eg Drive D)
3) In the new My Documents folder, create a folder called Mail or Outlook (or whatever you prefer) and put your PST file there. Rename your PST file from Outlook.pst to JoeBloggs_Mail.pst or something you can easily recognise.
4) Point all your Links shortcuts to the new partition, and point Outlook to the PST in the new location.

Now when you backup you can do the entire new partition/volume. You can also reformat your systems drive and install new operating systems at will and all your data stays unchanged.
