hello,

is there anyone here who has experience with good finger or hand scanning access control devices?

We are in the market for these and its quite a difficult and expensive subject to research.

If you could share some info it would be appreciated

Yes, extensively. What application and environment? Budget?

Have a look at Suprema, it's pretty much the brand to go for.

Regal Eltro in Cape Town sell a good device. Tel 021-6974777

As with all of these, when you enroll the fingers, they must be clean, wound-free and the people must not press too hard on the scanner. I have installed plenty and found them to be reliable. Just make sure if it is outside, it is well under cover and the sun cannot shine on the reader

Proper ISO certifications take care of that. Generally, a reputable brand will sell you a hood with the bio as a bundle, if you tell the supplier that it is intended to be used outside.

My previous employer used Sagem, was durable. 150 people moving in and out of a building all day and no problems. Also note that it was an international company, they used this all over.

I can vouch for Sagem as well - excellent quality products.

People actually allow their fingerprints on a corporate database ?

Normally it's just a hash of your fingerprint, not the fingerprint itself, so it's not like you could create a print from the stored code.

Not convinced by these things tbh, not after seeing the mythbuster ep where they fooled a scanner with a photocopied print.

Seen lots of places put them in recently though.

havoc i have similar concerns. Perhaps the higher end devices require heat/static input before reading the finger(s)
