It's not about obsolescence as much as it is about non-economical repair.
Why repair a kettle for R500 an hour if you can buy a new one for similar or less?
It CAN be fixed. Anything can. Just doesn't always make sense.
"Reportedly" bull****. Never have I needed to change a microwave or oven bulb, ever. But considering the radiation and heat involved I wouldn't expect them to last forever. It's a R5 bulb, nobody is making any money from having it pop constantly.
No they made them specifically because they last longer.
The conspiracy here is why nobody bothered creating them 20 years ago just because there was an abundance of power available. We might not have had the problems we do now if we did all those energy saving tricks way back when.
I do agree with you ; yes things can and do break,
and its possible to fix them, just dosent always make sense to sometimes;
100% agree with you;
my problem comes in when they make things purposefully obsolete and there is no possible way to fix them,
good example with my car;
according to what auto ecu told me; your ECU is sealed with potting;
didnt see myself so I cant confirm, hopefully Ill get the old ECU to see for myself soon.
but heres a great example, you HAVE to buy another if it goes, you cant fix it;
so therefore the manufacturer can charge you a small fortune to fix it;
yes I do know in my case there is more to the story;
yes It was fiddled to an extent Im not even sure, and just got to 100000 KM,
and over 5 years;
100% agree on that,
but say I had a equivalent benz or toyota with a ECU, that cant be fixed?
you have to go buy another one at great expense to get your car back, woudent you be a bit pissed off at that?
like airbags of a car, yes I know if saves lives, and all that very good things,
but say it deploys for something not serious at all? like you drive over a open manhole cover at speed and they pop;
again, you cant repair them; not cheaply anyway;
you HAVE to take it to the dealer to fix; and thats gonna cost you so much just to get going again;
how many cars have I seen at SMD, with popped airbags? and the bodywork is perfectly fine;
hell the car even drives perfectly well, just popped bags getting in the way always.
just another example out there; old Motherboard of a pc,
all the components are tiny, and were placed by a robot
so if something tiny breaks, like a capacitor blows, you cant fix it;
you cant just unsolder the component and put a new one on;
or an even better example, all the schematic diagrams in mandarin,
even if you could unsolder them, unless you speak mandarin you wont know what to do;
just another way the goverment is more interested in selling us cheap disposable things
that have a very finite life that you use and toss away; like a disposable lighter.
kind of sad really, as many things can carry on for decades if maintained properly,
just its not in the best interests to keep supporting old things,
I suppose thats why we live in a disposable society,
and why the landfills are filling up with toxic waste that nothing can be done about;
