Fire Devils Peak. Those Helo guys are good

Good to know, saw the smoke this afternoon on the way home. During the big fires in the Peninsula last year, hearing those Helo's arrive each morning was always reassuring. It was amazing to watch them fighting the fires near our home for days.
 
Many years ago they stole our pool water, one bucket and it was like 1/4 of the pool gone.
 
The firefighters in CPT work hard. I remember a pilot lost his life fighting a fire in a helicopter crash last year. :(

Often you see three or more choppers in the air fighting a single fire. seems pointless at times, but I guess they make a massive impact. Choppers can get to areas people on the ground can't.
 
It takes being able to fly a helicopter to understand how difficult it is to fly a helicopter with a 2 ton pendulum swinging around underneath it in a 25kt wind.

I have massive respect for these guys. It is so easy for things to go wrong. It seems like the wind is calming down a bit this morning. Let's hope for an uneventful day.
 
two people carriers filled with firemen just drove past my flat on their way to the fire

the helicopters (I'm guessing 3) are basically flying in circles, sometimes a queue forming at the dam by the gardens

Must cost tens of thousands an hour to fly those things.

For those of you in the area, you can take a walk up to the reservoir next to De Waal park and watch them refill the water buckets. It's really cool to watch!

yeah I thought I saw helicopters going that way as well, it was more on signal hill though, there was a fire on Lion's head in the week.

that reservoir is actually what I was referring to in my previous post, the pictures I've taken are not very good though cause the helicopters get lost in the background of houses.
 
Anyone around the area of Devils Peak notice smoke from a fire?
Sorry my phone refuses to work (fire reservoir slip) ' Dropped in the pool.

Edit first Heli's just past overhead, damn I hate my fire reservoir for taking my phone out.
