Firearm Licence Renewals

Re the Green License issue - I did discuss with Martin Hood and he confirmed these licences are still valid in his opinion based on the law. This is irrespective if you have a new white card which has expired. However what concerns me is if you get stopped and Mr Police Officer decides to get difficult as many of them do not know the law.

Join GOSA. They have 24 hr legal assistance. This won't necessarily help you right then and there with mr ignorant SAPS/metro, but at least help is on the way. Also, if you have a green license, show that to the SAPS/metro instead of the white license. If they get difficult, don't fight it. It is not worth getting into a fight next to the road. It is easier to take them on later.

Doesn't mean that that cop's word is the law, though. They generally know nothing (one of the reasons I fought to get BOTH .38SPL and .357Mag listed on my one rifle's licence card), and just because they say so doesn't make it law.

Well this is good to know thank goodness I still hve my green card licence as well
 
Applied for renewal of my white card about 120 days prior to expiry. DFA tells me "you are too soon to apply". Explain I will be abroad when 90 days comes up. Reluctantly he accepts my application. Card expired beginning of Feb 2017. Have called 3 or 4 times... No news on my renewed card. TIA

As long as you've got the receipt as proof that you have reapplied, you're good to go.
