I'm forced to use IE7 because Vista's voice recognition and Firefox dont blend well for some reason...I think Microsoft perposefully made it that way

i have multiple tabs open when i surf and i have no problems. on the contrary, i had those freezing errors with FF 2.0.0.10.

Sorry but I gotta bump this thread. Firefox is now constantly making CPU usage shoot up to 100% as soon as I open up a new tab, so far it seems Youtube is the culprit but I'll see if it still happens with any other sites.

I take it nobody else is having this problem? FF 2.0.0.11

Got about 15 tabs open including Youtube and my CPU usage is between 5-10%, with Thunderbird, Winamp, NOD32 etc. running as well, FF is using about 140MB of RAM though. Running the same version you are.

What's your PC specs?

I'm running:

Athlon 64 3200+ s939
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
1GB DDR400 Kingston
Geforce 6800GT

It's an average rig but it really shouldn't be giving crap.

On a laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6, 1.5GB DDR2 667

Only difference I can think of is that I'm running the PortableApps version of FF, I don't think it should make any performance difference though? I'm running it from an encrypted partition which should actually increase overhead.

Worth a try, if nothing else its a different FF version, could be some sort of corruption with your main FF install.

PROBLEM:
Firefox v2.0.0.11. Windows XP Pro SP2. Start Firefox 2 with a blank startup page, then wait a few minutes. Suddenly the Firefox.exe goes from 0 to 99% CPU and stays there and RAM use goes up and up. Even does it in safe mode with no add ons. Close Firefox, the window closes but the process remains in task manager - have to kill the process.

SOLUTION:
In tools > options > security. Untick the 'tell me if the site i am visiting is a suspected forgery'. box. CPU use went from 99% to 0% once I had done this.
