All these years using firefox i have always had a lag when returning to the previouse page when browsing...why is it that opera have done this better. Why cant they fix this issue.
Another issue for me is can i set fire fox to not download updates automatically.I hate that.

To change the auto update settings in FF 3.0.10:
Tools -> Options -> Advanced Tab -> Update Tab

Check your add-ons. Sometimes they slow down Firefox. Disable one by one to find the culprit.

Hi All...

Firefox used to be my de facto browser... rediscovered Opera, am now using the 10.00 Alpha Build 1456 with Turbo enabled. Fast, fast fast. Stable. I just do not like the RSS implementation in Opera, FF bookmarks also missed.

I used to think that I could NOT do without all my FF extensions! LOL, I can it seems and am doing fine without. Opera's content block is OK, but Adblock would be better. I like the speed... I like the smaller resource footprint and the turbo feature of Opera.

I still fire-up the fox now again, to test the latest nightly build mainly. But, am always going back to Opera. It is now my default on Win 7. Nice nice nice.

:)

P.s. The lack of lag in Opera also is a biiiig plus!

gonna try opera tonight then. my ff is getting slower to startup with my plugins installed.

With my browsing on sites that i trust i turn off my antivirus (Avast) which makes firefox much faster. Addblock pluggin makes FF a dream... almost no adds at all- much faster.

Yup... Adblock IS indeed the biggest plus... but, with Opera I have disabled DNS service and added a whole wack of adservers to my hosts file, installed edexter to filter these on the fly, and, voila, no ads either. A bit of a schlep for the same adblock function of ff in Opera... but it works... and I REALLY am loving the speed of Opera. Also installed a theme called "dance and shout"... looks great. Using Orbit as a download manager... nothing really is missed in FF...

At this moment in time, Opera is perfect... stable even for an Alpha release. Farewell FF, I shall remember ye fondly!

One of the more noticeable UI changes between FF 2.X and 3.X is the "Big Back Button" this was because they realiased that users actually use the back button in their browser very often.

Now if they are smart enough to pick up on something like that and change their software accordingly, I'm pretty sure that they are also working on making it more efficient.

As Aqua_lung says in 3.5beta he has no lag, so it's obviously something they are aware of...

3.0.10 is the official "stable" release. I too am(was) using 3.5 beta and also 3.6a1pre. You can also install the Nightly Tester Tools add-on to override compatibility for those indispensable extensions & themes.
