Firefox now takes 1Mb to start

I think I must uninstall FF as it chows up my data. It started doing this a few days ago and then stopped. Now it has started again. I don't know where this data is going, but I don't see any results.

This is very odd.

It sounds like a bad plugin or Spyware. I cannot understand what FF would do with 1Mb of bandwidth on startup. Even checking updates should take only a few kb.

You definitely have something that smells like spy/adware on your browser. Sure, Firefox gobbles memory, but bandwidth??

Safe Browsing

Every so often, Firefox downloads a file containing a list of suspect sites from a Google site. Have seen this using a utility named Naviscope which intercepts (and lists) most port 80 traffic. The file is over 1 MB at the moment. I believe you can turn this off in FF Options in the Security tab by unchecking the box "tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected forgery".

get net meter and determine what exactly is eating your bandwidth... and turn off your auto update stuff

sounds like pebkac error to me.
