Hi guys,

So we received a quote to install fibre from Fibrehoods in our complex of 200 units.

We received an approval from them with quite a detailed survey of how the fibre will be installed.

What I cannot understand is this:

How do they then make money?

There are not monthly costs on the proposal- is there something that I'm missing?

I would assume that each unit who then need to get their own ISP or am I wrong?

They sell an internet service to 200 people to make money? No matter which ISP the home units choose, they'll get a cut of the money.

In addition to them making money from the ISPs for renting; often their installations aren't free because lets say if you dont want cables hanging over your property, then you have to pay them to lay the cable underground or whatever other method you decide.

Just make sure that your provider allows you to change ISPs. As an example: We picked MetroFibre as we are able to switch ISPs after the initial 3 months for the network to settle after installation. Other providers (such as SADV, MTN, Vodacom etc) will not allow other ISPs on the network. Some of those providers will claim that they do, but they actually do not (I would always check with the actual ISP - I did this with SADV and their claims and found that the majority of ISPs they mentioned, did not know about it).

Thanks for all the feedback.

I know this may sound a bit doff but should we ask them if there are any monthly rental fees which each unit owner will need to pay?

Do you perhaps know which ISP's are active on Metrofibre? i only know of two (apart from Metrofibre themselves)
