Hi everyone!

I recently bought the Sinotec 50” UHD Smart Plus+ LED TV: http://www.sinoprima.co.za/products/smart-tv/50e6000
I plugged my Amazon Fire TV in and when I try play any UHD programs I get an error saying that my TV does not support HDCP 2.2

As far as I know, the HDMI 3 port on the TV does support this feature! And this is where my Fire TV is plugged in.

I have tried all the ports, but it brings up the error every time!

Anyone experiencing an issue like this?

Kevin

According to Amazon, if the TV has an MHL port, then it supports HDCP 2.2.
My HDMI 3 port says MHL on it, so I assume it supports HDCP 2.2.

Im not clued up on TVs, so not sure.

I am going to call Sinotec and ask, but being a 4K TV, surely it should support these things??

Not all 4K TVs in the market support HDCP 2.2. I had to take my Fire TV along to test the TV i eventually got to make sure it supported HDCP 2.2

Well it seems like it might....when I opened the YouTube app on the FireTV, it popped up a message saying that you are now viewing in 4K, and the TV resolution changed to 4K.
But when I go back to Amazon or Netflix, it goes back to 1080p......not sure what's going on!

Some fire TV apps dont require HDCP 2.2 to display their 4K content, the youtube and other apps are an example. HDCP 2.2 is copy protection technology and is required to view UHD content on Netflix and Amazon prime Video.

Is it dependent on a compliant hdmi 2 cable perhaps?

Nope, an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable, cables marketed as specifically for 4k are a con.

Not necessarily, I know what you mean with the ridiculously priced Monster cables etc, but not all HDMI cables are created equally, cables are classified as either Standard (1,782 Gbps), High Speed (8,16 Gbps) or Premium (18 Gbps)

The Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program is the new program from the creators of HDMI technology. It encompasses additional and enhanced cable testing as well as an authentication and verification program.

Cables are tested to ensure they support the full 18Gbps bandwidth from the HDMI 2.0b specification plus an EMI test to ensure cables minimize interference with wireless signals.

The program is designed to give end users confidence when purchasing new HDMI cables for their 4K/UltraHD products that may include features such as 4K@60Hz, BT.2020 and HDR.

Something like this will do just fine:

Ellies High Speed HDMI Cable

or

Ellies Premium HDMI Cable
