Hi Guys

I hope someone might be able to help me with the following:

So I got the game earlier today and started installing. After the DVD was inserted and started to run a window popped up showing downloading, but I kept on getting an error message stating that there was a problem with my connection. Eventually I disabled the firewall and the process could continue. After the installation completed and the update started downloading I took a chance and enabled the firewall again. Download speed went to zero and only picked up after disabling the firewall again. Update eventually finished and I enabled the firewall again. Launching the game also brought up the same window which says downloading but nothing happened until I disabled the firewall again and the window where you enter your account details opened after the check/download was done. In the firewall settings I can see that there in an exception for the GW2 exe.

After looking at the firewall logs I noticed the following:

gw2firewall.jpg

The application blocked only says FilterDevice. I am unfortunately not to clued up regarding these things. I would like to know what I can or need to do so that I don't have to disable the firewall every time I want to play GW2. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If it happens again the next time you try, check the error code at the bottom left of the GW2 application, if it reads Error 42 then it's a general login issue and most of us can't login either

http://en.support.guildwars2.com can provide more information

What Firewall software are you using? I am using the standard firewall that comes with windows 7 and haven't had a problem yet. If you are using the same one and it is causing the problem, there might be other things causing the issue (even though it works if you disable the firewall)

I used AVG's firewall as it is the antivirus I am currently using. I disabled the AVG and enabled the Windows firewall, seems to be working.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

I got the same thing last night. My error code was 42. It is a problem with the servers. I went in and flushed my dns and now have had no issues with logging on.

I am having the same issue on my laptop via the wireless connection. Windows firewall is off but still cannot log in. Avast is on silent mode as well.
