Hi ppl

I need some help, suggestions, opinions, etc on selecting reliable personal firewall and virus software for my PC. The question is do I need any or could I rely on Ad-Aware SE, Spybot SD alone?

I'm currently using AD Aware and Spybot but need to determine what Virus Software and Firewall software I need to invest in, keeping in mind that I will be using 3G in the very near future, compatiblity issues could be a problem.

There is such a huge selection in the market place. One website rates Zone Alarm Pro as the best option for now?

Any comments and help will be much appreciated.

Appologies if this was covered in another tread...

I've been using Zone Alarm Pro for a few years now. Its one of the better firewalls I've used. Program control is simple and easy to maintain.

Ad aware and spybot can not remove or detect viruses. Why run both? They only slowing down your machine. Uninstall them and use them every once in a while to make sure your machine is clean. Better yet, use Firefox, you wont get so much junk loaded into the browser

AVG and Avast are decent free anti virus products

Use Linux or Solaris x86 then u dont need any protection and the firewall stuff is buildin :p
I know I know u need windows based software. Another solution is to run Knoppix + a usb drive to save settings so whenever u need to connect u use Knoppix and when not using 3g u use windoze

What OS are you running?
If its XP I would say use the built in firewall on SP2.
The new Microsoft Anti Spyware seems quite good.

If you dont have XP, the Sygate Personal Firewall is great and free.

For the virus side, I recon Norton Antivirus 2005, its not expensive and you can even buy online if you have the bandwidth and dont feel like a trip to your local PC dealer.
