I'm using GoldTach & AntiVir XP for security.
Anyone know if it's any good ata all?
It's free, so u probably get what u pay 4.

Have been using it 4 a while, seems ok, userfriendly & all.
but dont know if its any good security wise.

Looks ok, and gets the right awards. If it doesn't automatically update, look elsewhere. Both AVG and Avast have free solutions that you don't have to worry about.

Now that Ilooked properly, Anti-Vir Classic misses out on email scanning, which the 2 I mentioned both have...

Good point, a full scan would pick up an e-mail vir. though, would it not?
Or if I try to access the file, it usually pop's a msg if something
bad tries to run, scripts etc.

At my work I use SmoothWall with ipacsum and bandwidthd to monitor ADSL line usage, and full firewall control to allow certain PC's on the Internet.

Works like a charm, and is completely free.

You can also install the ClamAV mod to implement anti-virus scanning and the such.

:D

At home I'm using plain-vanilla SmoothWall on an ancient Pentium1 with 32Mb RAM - it blocks all the baddies on the SAIX network for me so I don't need to worry.

Tested

Hi
Tested my FW at grc.com, 100% secure, best of all
I installed it, did not even have to tweak anything (PnP)
and it got this rating, so I think its quite ok.
Regarding the AV, personally I prefer AntiVir to
the other mentioned, only drawback is mail scanning.
I see Avast does not block scripts, not good.

I have upgraded my SmoothWall box at home, and I have installed the ClamAV and Dansguardian mods.

Now nobody can surf to pr0n sites. Which is what I have intended.

And viruses gets blocked automatically when you try to download virus-infested files.

Naaaaiiiiiissss.... now I can relax. :D

For those with kiddies, or young teens, this might be a solution as Dansguardian looks at the content of the web page to decide whether to block it or not.

Unfortunately Dansguardian only runs on SmoothWall and most *nix variants, and not Windoze afaik.
