Hi All

If neccessary, do you need to install a firewall on a cyanogenmod device?

If so, which one is the best and recommended to use?

Thanks

Ook

Depends on why you want to install a firewall? Is it to control traffic? You don't need to, because Android has a built-in firewall of sorts.

Thanks for the replies.

Just wanted to make sure whether I'm safe or not.

I can remember that at one stage if you rooted your iThing (long ago) you were at risk of ne'er-do-wells gaining access via SSH (no doubt they patched that open hole soon afterwards) and just wanted to make sure if I'm safe or not. :)

I wouldn't bother. But if you like, check out droidwall.

That actually looks quite useful to complement CM's Privacy Guard. Will be nice to deny specific apps internet access, like games, so that they cannot show ads :)

Problem is some games (like Angry Birds Epic) download content when playing, so if said game doesn't have internet access, you can't play.

Which device is this? An Xposed module I use called LightningWall allows me granular access to each application's network access. Worth a shot.

Droidwall, if you can still find it, would be the next best bet. It was taken over by Avast AFAIK.

Ok, don't play that many and never had that problem. I always just switched off data connections before playing, then you don't see the annoying ads while playing.

So you are just running stock CM? No other apps when you checked your ports?

Running Smoothwall with the URL Filter MOD, which would block the requests for ads cold, but allow the games free access.
