I wondered if someody cold help me please. I have previously conneted my BT home hub router via a usb port. i recently changed it to a ethernet port as I was told that it will improve speed and connectiity with my wireless laptop.
Since I have changed the port I have been okay to use the internet but have not been able to download anyhing as it says it is firewalled. I have not changed my firewall setting but wondered if there was a inbuilt firewall in the ethernet card. I have tried a few steps without any success  (disabling windows firewall temporarily, changing access port)
can some please advise

Are you connecting the router directly into your PC?

Windows will "get in the way" more on an ethernet port than an USB. Have you tried disabling windows firewall and rebooting? Any other firewall software on your PC?

What is your browser and what is your download software? What is the actual error message?

Routers have built-in firewalls as well when connected via ethernet.

To change those settings you'll need to connect to your router's IP address via your browser (for example http://192.168.0.1). To find out what your router's IP address is, check your network card's default gateway by entering the command "ipconfig" in Command Prompt.

You might need to setup port forwarding on the router and allow Windows Firewall also to accept those incoming ports. It depends what you're using to download.

Hope this leads you in the right direction.
