Businesses around the city are apparently still experiencing problems with their ADSL Telkom lines.

It was reported last week that numerous Internet users, small businesses and schools had been affected.

City business owner Amie Hunter said she had been off-line for a week. "We manage websites for clients. Our loss of business has been significant.

"Telkom will perhaps refund us the money we've paid in advance for the down time, but they won't refund us for business lost.

"Trying to get hold of someone is not easy either. I eventually got through to the Cape Town call centre which helped me.

"There was apparently a problem with the settings on the modem which was affected by the rain. It was from their side. The technician told me I was on a list of 3 000 people with ADSL problems," said Hunter.

Candice Jeffreys of Telkom said the figure was inaccurate. Telkom has had problems as a result of the rain for a few months. Technical staff have been increased to address outstanding faults.
