Come to think of it google did that with ICS, manufacturers are putting it back on. Few ROMs back with cyanogen there was no mass storage mode, figured it was a bug of the beta and it came out in the next release or so.
Cant say I use it very often so it would not be a major train smash for me, but cause of rooting I already have the additional USB driver installed and USB debugging so if that would be the work-around then no worries for me.
