Hi all. Looking into getting my first car (which I'll be financing). Most interested in getting a used/demo small, automatic car, mainly for commuting in Joburg. Just looking for something reliable and safe. Have a budget of ~R150k-175k.

I've been looking at the suzuki swift, kia picanto, grand i10, etc. and I've test driven a few but haven't found anything just yet. However, not too experienced at doing this so was looking for some help/suggestions.

Do you prefer the tiny cars or you just think you are limited in your options?

Picanto or Grand i10. And since it'll be used for commuting, go with the automatic...

Renault Kwid is possibly the ugliest car on the road - unless you don't care about that, then go for it.

The Honda Jazz appears to be exclusively driven by deaf and blind 70-year old women - unless you are one, in which case, go for it.

I personally would recommend either the Kia Picanto or VW Up.

Kia picanto automatic is usually available in that price range. We got a 2013 model for R150k top spec in 2017.
