First car options

Looking to buy my first car with a budget of R120-R130k. I've narrowed down my options to Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio and and Kia Rio. Found a 2013 1.4 Fiesta with 75,000km mileage today which I want to secure, but I've been advised that these cars give problems after 100,000km and replacement parts are expensive.

Any advice?

:crylaugh:

People just enjoy picking on Renault, if we were to go by the number of car related problems here it's clear that Opel will win with a clear majority, that or maybe the Renault people keep their car problems to themselves.

At least one Renault fan I know (my dad) doesn't so much keep his car problems a secret as he seems to selectively choose to forget them in the name of his love for Renault.

I know for a fact he has owned 6 different Renaults in my lifetime. Every. single. one. of. them. had. electrical. problems. Yet he still recommends Renault to anyone who asks for car buying advice :wtf:

Maybe your dad is the problem ;)

Not at all, my comment was not a serious one. I drive an Opel myself, a Corsa B 1.4i and I have nothing but good things to say about it, it's now clocked 200k kms and the only major thing I did was replacing the clutch at 175k kms, besides that only normal servicing and wear and tear items.

Most of the complaints I've seen around here about Opel mostly come from people who are clueless about cars and who have been lied to by bogus mechanics into spending loads of cash replacing things that were not faulty instead of troubleshooting and properly diagnosing the problems so I would not take them too seriously.

Opel may not be up there with the Japanese in terms of reliability but it's certainly very far from being labelled as unreliable.

Thanks for all the input. Wasn't a vehicle I intended on getting, but I've settled for a 2014 Opel Corsa that I will be securing later today. It makes more financial sense in the long term rather than sacrificing mileage and age on a Fiesta/Clio IV.

Good choice.
