First car

Went the boring route and gave him money so he could choose himself. Ask twice if he wanted to go look at cars and he was not interested. Granted it was exam times. But now exams is finished he seems to be interested, so at least it seems his priorities are right.
Still don't know what, definitely not going fancy newish with finance. His friends got mostly Swifts, one 320d(old) and a Land Cruiser😧
After a Polo(that is not a option) the Swift seem the closest to it. But when you look at older ones they go for a lot of money. You can get much more luxury cars for the same money that got more or less the same kms and years. Obviously service and repairs will be higher on them too.
After I have seen how many of his friends have already bumped their "new" cars, I wonder if we should not go really cheap under 80k.
I had the same thoughts but decided new with a service plan, warranty and good insurance was the way to go for me.

I was first offered my mom's old Beetle but there were issues with the paperwork for some reason so I got my mom's '92 CitiGolf Sport which in 1999 was a lot of car for wet behind the ears driver. How times have changed, not sure I would want either of my sons driving a CitiGolf as their first car...

It was a great car until my brother crashed it. I still have a MkI Golf and love driving it, I just wouldn't want to drive it every day.
Hated driving those, i mean who were they designed for? I mean I know the 70s people were shorter cause of smoking.
