First Charge?

Hey guys, just upgraded my contract and I got an N73.

Question is how long do i need to charge it before I can use it?

Been looking on the net, seems like the newer Li-ion batteries don't need the typical 12-15 hrs initial charge cycle.

Is that initial 12-15 hr initial charge cycle advice not a legacy of Nickel batteries?

Just wanted to check if anyone here had any knowledge?

I think the 1st initial charge is required. I also waited the 12-16 hours. <---- its hell

Cuz you've got this nice new phone and just want to check it out, and see what features it got and figure out how to use it.

Dunno why they say 12-16hours tho. My phone charges quite fast, about 35min and its full charged and lasts me around 4-5days. My 1st charge was done within 40min. but i left it on for the rest of the time just to make sure.

I think it is a legacy thing. I have also browsed the web completely way back when I got my 6680 and have never found anything official.

What I suggest: plug in it the charger for 5 or so hours, and then switch it on (but leave it in the charger).

That way, you can play with it at least.

I couldn't wait the 15 hrs, used it after about 4 hrs charging.

Bottom line: No, you don't have to charge lithium-ion batteries for 16h+.

Charge it whenever you want. I charge my cellphones' batteries every now and then at night until the next morning. I've never had a problem with any of them.

From what I learnt over time about cellphone batteries are: They have a timer/scale builtin and the timer will measure the length of time that you charged the battery,If you charge your battery and it not completed a full charge then that will be your final full charge place,say if you charge your battery half way every now and then the timer will set it at that point as full and you will not get the full potential of the battery because it will only charge full to that set point.Your battery will run down sooner that it is suppose to.

That was the problem with the older batteries. The new batteries that we get in the devices these days doesn't have that "memory" problem.

Yip, 100% sure. But it will not harm your battery to do a full charge at least once a week. That's what I do. At least once a week I let my phone charge the whole night.

More important is the number of charge/discharge cycles i.e. you charge your phone as you normally would, use it until battery runs completely dead, recharge again. After about 3 or so charge/discharge cycles you should start seeing optimal battery life.

That's true. Usually when you get a new phone the battery goes dead very quickly after the first charge. And after every charge it gets longer battery life up to a point where it stays more or less the same.

The average user charges his/her cellphone battery at least 100x per year, depending on the phone and usage. So his/her cellphones battery should last about 5 years before it will start dying very quickly.



People using PDA phones that charges their phones everyday will have to buy a new battery after about 18 months.
