First government hospital experience

Took my boy to a neurologist at Tygerberg two years ago. This doc was highly rated and apparently a leader in his line of work. The visit took hours as they don't do bookings. Had to walk throughout the dirty hospital with no proper signs searching for the right wing. Thereafter we had to wait for several hours to be seen. And to add insult to injury they charged us only slightly less than a private neurologist might have charged.

I would say avoid unless you are seriously broke or the practitioner comes highly recommended.

I would say avoid unless you are seriously broke or the practitioner comes highly recommended.

Most of the specialists are consultants who you can see privately. Mine practices walking distance from my house and I was surprised how cheap he was. Only had to go the hospital to get a patient number as I've never been to the State hospital before.

Difference also was that when he said I needed the op he could have done it next day at the private hospital if my medical aid would have covered it, but I ended up waiting 4 months.
