ComingSoon.net has your first look at Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing") in the new RoboCop suit! Filming started today in Toronto and you can see the updated design below.

Directed by Jose Padilha, the August 9, 2013 release co-stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. From Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Columbia Pictures, the film was written by Josh Zetumer and Nick Schenk, based on the 1987 motion picture written by Edward Neumeier & Michael Miner. The film is produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, with Bill Carraro serving as executive producer.

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Mandatory comment: I would say they're ruining my childhood but then again the original mental scarred me when I was young.

Looks like a guy in armour instead of, you know, that actually being his body. Not good. Also, the new ED209 looks like some animé POS. :(

pffft... looks like a Batman fanboi on the way to an afternoon screening.

The original Robocop had to be an exaggerated metal body... the entire movie was an exaggeration of things... an exaggerated satirical commentary about society and culture at the time.

Now it becomes a literal representational reality fest.

That happened in the 60's or 70's already.

Almost everything is a rehash of either an older movie or a cartoon/comic book.

Ja, everything is a "Remake", "pre-qeul", a F@kking "reboot" or a M-F@kking "comic book to film adaptation".

I'm skipping a lot of movies this year. Spiderman was rebooted for the umpfteen times now (waste of time....will it get better). Now they f@cked up Total recall (apparently they removed the Mars scenes)......etc, etc, etc.
Don't get me started on the pre-quels messing it all up. (X-Men, Aliens, etc)

And they're taking it further now, they make Pre-quels that is also a reboot. Like: last X-Men movie and the Star Trek 2009.

FAIL.

Even worse is that apparently the script is a mess with Robo battling Al Qaeda in Iraq.
I schit u not.

This is truly what I don't understand.... If you're rebooting the franchise, why the hell do you have to change the one thing that people recognised???? I mean seriously, his suit and helmet where awesome! All they had to do was bring it into the modern age.

And if that is seriously the plot, then
/facepalm
