First time ordering ADSL

Hey everyone, telkom phoned me on 2012/06/27 to order a Simple Plus package for R499, got a order no and everything, then after I spoked to telkom I got an SMS from them saying that my order is receiving attention.

So how long am I going to wait for a tech to phone me so that he can install the line?

I got mine in 1 day.

I went to the Telkom Shop near me in the morning and got the reference number and order number, sent it to one of my friends father and he went to the exchange and got me on one of the ports.

Was so happy that day.
 
Got mine working in the week. Just a heads up. Something I was not aware of at first, is that once the router is installed and connecting, you still have to go to Telkom's web site using the dsl modem. This is to 'verify' the line. You must type in your landline nr and the order number. Only once the line is 'verified', will you be able to connect to others sites.
 
Do you want a complete phone line or just an ADSL activation?

If its the latter and the tech comes out beware of the hidden installation cost.

you can do it yourself.

We ordered the same package in the beginning of June - they said it would be installed in a week... got our SMS as well, like you did. 2 weeks later I call to ask what's up. Apparently what they failed to mention is that they are waiting for a R700 deposit (which we weren't told about)... So maybe just play it safe and confirm that they are not waiting for you to pay something, that you have no idea about, else they will chuck your order out after 30 days.

I phoned them on Friday, they said they are just sorting out a number with the exchange then they will let me know when they can install the line. I was at a Telkom Direct shop today and they gave me a free 8ta 3G dongle and R150 8ta airtime to use while a wait for my line to be installed.

Ah ok, that's good then - at least you didn't get a surprise like I did :D

Aren't you meant to get the dongle with 500MB data (once off) as part of that R499 special, anyways though?

Yes, thats the one I got, but they give you R150 airtime, so I took that airtime and bought the 2GB + 1GB promo....So thank you Telkom. So I hope they can install my line this week. :)

Going to steal that idea for when ours eventually goes through as well! Hoping to get our order number this week too... Good luck with getting your line!
 
So I phoned Telkom today and they told me that there are no open ports in Sunward Park's exchange. So see you in a few months ADSL....:(
 
Good news! Got an SMS this morning, they are going to install my line tomorrow!! :D

Good news on my side too - they lost our initial order, but the call centre loaded it again this morning. Installation should be done in next week, if not tomorrow! :D
