Last night I realized that running my CPU at 2.4 Ghz is not enough for Colin M - Dirt. According to various resources my specific CPU can safely run at 2.9. And with a Fresh Install of Win XP, it should work fine.

I'm just worried about cooling. Currently, my PC is venting very hot air... and as its summer, I'm not sure that the Standard Fan on my CPU will do the job. And I'm not keen on the idea of going out and getting some Zalman cooling...as I'm kinda flat-pocket this month.

I've never had to overclock my pc, so I'm a bit of a noob on this. Secondly, how do I go about overclocking it? I know that you get software that does it, but I thought the sensible place to do it is in the BIOS.

What I did was Google my specific motherboard to learn how to overclock. Your mobo might not support very effective overclocking - mine certainly doesn't - or it might be idiosyncratic. Your processor doesn't matter all that much compared to the motherboard. I'm guessing you have an e6600?

Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI/DELUXE Skt 939 nForce4 SLI chipset MoBo
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHZ S939 1024KB SAN DIEGO

I just saw the date that I bought these... 24/08/2005. Wow. Its been running great for 3.5 years. :D Just shows what a little understanding about Hardware and Software can do.

This is how good AMD and ASUS is.. :D I've never (and still haven't) had any problems.
