At least five investigations are under way into the collapse of a temporary bridge over the M1 freeway in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
The Department of Labour, the City of Johannesburg, the police, the Engineering Council of SA and the bridge's builder, Murray&Roberts, have all launched investigations.
Johannesburg mayoral spokesman Phindile Chauke said: "We have launched our investigation because we contracted Murray&Roberts and we feel responsible."
The M1 was reopened yesterday afternoon, with metro police monitoring the traffic flow at the site of the collapse.
