Hi Everyone

I am trying to fix our broken telephone socket before getting a telkom tekkie to do it for me, since I have done RJ45 cables b4 I figured I will try this out.

For some reason I cant find any DIY's for our coloring scheme which is white/blue/green/purple

Do I have to call a telkom technician in to fix my socket for me or is a DIY possible?

From what I know there isn't a fixed scheme. Only 2 of the 4 wires Re actually used, so it just depends which 2 the techie that Installed used

Test different combinations

What do you mean, punching or crimping? RJ11?

I Basically just got a new socket and need to re-insert the wires into the socket, but I will try different combinations tomorrow and see how it goes

Check the wires with a multimeter tow of the wires should give you 48Vdc.

If you don't have a multimeter hold a wire in each hand while someone calls your phone number, when you have the correct wires you will get a nice little jolt :D

Is it not more like 5 volts? Always thought it ran on low voltage.... But yes the multimeter is the way to go if you have 1

Ok thanks

In that case hold 2 wires on your tongue and speed dial home. - just kidding

Mostly blue and white. Repair persons learn that this is the first pair in a cable. Techs used to be a 3 year sert. or 4 year dep. They have all been retrenched, retired or promoted.

TBH, i've tried that hey, had the same issue as the OP, and fixed it myself, with that method, but mind you.... Never had to dial home, it just gave me the TTTZZZZZTTTTT!!!!

I cut an old rj11 flylead when I wanted to check and joined wires until I got a dial tone to see which ones were the "live" ones.
