[Fixed] JasJar refusing to wifi by default...

Ok I admit that I need some help with this one, pinging anyone that has experience with wifi via a JasJar [HTC Universal]... ... ... ... ...

1. In a nutshell, I'm not convinced that the JasJar is actually connected to my Linksys WRT54GL router bcos ic Available and sometimes Connecting but never Connected, so I assume it tries but never gets connected...
2. Start > Settings > Connections > Network Cards > Wireless
   • Networks to access: All available
   • SSID_of_WRT54GL
     • General
       • Connects to: Work
     • Network Key:
       • Authentication: WPA-PSK
       • Data Encryption: TKIP
       • Network Key: ************* //more than 13 digits long seems to be a problem with the JasJar .
3. Start > Settings > Connections > Wireless LAN: //the following fields are all grayed out so I assume they're only for info display
   Status : Scanning network... //never changes
   SSID: [vacuum of space]
   Tx Rate: Auto
   Mode: Infrastructure
   BSSID: [vacuum of space]
   MAC: [xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx] //this MAC address added to WRT54GL's whitelist filter
   IP: [vacuum of space]
   Signal Quality [vacuum of space]
   No entries in the LEAP list.

My WRT54GL is set to mixed mode [801.11b and 802.11g] bcos I haven't had time to tweak the JasJar's registry for 802.11g, although that's next on the list of things to try, I also had to enable SSID broadcasting on my WRT54GL bcos the JasJar kept showing 'Unavailable' and not even attempting 'Connecting'...

Any relevant advice?

I would suggest removing all the filters and security. Manually configure your IP
try connecting your device ...make sure your settings are correct .. in some cases you will find the hardware you are using might be incompatible .. but i am leaning more towards your security settings ... turn them on one at a time .. until the problem is replicated ....

I sold my Jasjar, so can't check in my settings no more. I didn't have issues to connect via Wifi, but i mostly connected "ad-hoc" [as in didn't change settings, i turned on WiFi until it auto picked up the available access point and i went from there....] .

I just remember vaguely i had some confusing issues with this. I believe the other option is connect to "Internet" [usually all your 3G stuff in there]. I never used the Work one , but i assume it depends on how you set it all up.

Work network will allow you to connect to a networked PC to transfer files ect ..
Connect to the internet is just that ... internet connection only .. it is a bit of a bugger to flip between the two depending on what you want to use the connection for ...

I've been struggling with the PHM Registry Editor [did backup registry first & saved to SD card] - to try and get the 802.11g impersonation working as described here...

But, for some unknown reason, PHMRE doesn't expand any of the registry hives, so I cannot even get into HKLM, although I can do a Tools > Find, but that takes me somewhere I don't want to go to...

Anyways, I found this post, and will apply the wirelesslanbgon.cab hack, which I fully expect will not solve my problem, but I might be able to put my WRT54GL back into G-only mode...

Has anyone used any of these wifi utils with their JasJar?

I will probably find that it's the TKIP encryption with WPA-PSK that's confusing the JasJar, or maybe a 32 character long SSID is too much for the JasJar to chew on...

I use Resco Explorer .. awesome utility .. Access to Registry .. if you know what you doing .
It has a much better interface than file explorer .. way more powerfull
Also FTP utility as well ..

Using resco i have access to the registry setting that you need to change ... Double check your path is correct ..

Arrrrggggg, just had to restore factory defaults bcos JasJar kept hanging - even after multiple soft resets...

For the benefit of others, do not do a "Remove Settings" and manually "Add New..." [in Network Cards > Wireless > Configure Wireless Networks], bcos this JasJar picked up on the SSID broadcast whilst I was manually doing the "Add New...", and I ended up with 2 different sets of network settings for the same SSID - the auto-created one had a different icon [I assume to say that settings were incomplete], and this is what caused this JasJar to hang horribly when automatically connecting to my wifi router...

I tried soft resetting, and taking the battery out, which didn't help.

Anyways, now that I have hard reset the JasJar, it picked up my router, and it actually said "Connected" [WPA-PSK & TKIP & Connects to: The Internet], touch wood it will still be working after I put my sim card back in the JasJar...

wifi all working nicely now after the hard reset to factory defaults & just had my first Skype call over wifi from JasJar through ISDSL...​

IC, I have the option of getting JasJar but I read in the specs that it only does WEP encryption for wireless - according to your post it can do WPA-PSK with TKIP. Does it do this 'out the box' or does one need to load some 3rd party utils to get this going? I will not consider getting it as my home network (WRT54G/L) is based on WPA-PSK (TKIP) security and I don't want to change it to WEP. The 802.11b wireless is acceptable to me as 11mb wireless is fine for Internet access. My SSID is also only 5 digits.

Let us know, I need to blow some bonus money for a new toy.

Definitely works - I still don't know why the JasJar's wifi security wouldn't work initially, but after that hard reset it hasn't given me anymore hassles - except that the battery life is very short and takes a very long time to charge on USB, other than that this is an excellent device for surfing the web and Skype.

In terms of browsers [I refuse to use the bundled Internet Exploder], I have loaded both Opera Mini and Mozilla Minimo, although Minimo has tabbed browsing, it is deathly slow - not sure why, but Opera Mini [without tabbed browsing] works much better on the JasJar...

I haven't really timed it, but ~2.5 hours to discharge when intermittently using the JasJar for browsing via wifi with a few apps like Skype running and midlets like GMail and Opera Mini. I have set the phone to maximise battery life in the wifi settings somewhere.

I find that it takes less time to charge the phone if I stop all apps and switch off wifi and the phone in Comms Manager [I haven't even switched on the JasJar's Bluetooth yet ].

It does get slightly warmer when charging via the USB cable - I'm wondering if there is sufficient power coming from my PC's USB port, but it takes just as long to charge on another 2 PCs... I will time the charge time later today and post it here.

At some point I will get another battery and hopefully there is a charging accessory that I can use to independently charge a second battery...

3G and Wifi can and will be demanding on the battery ... keep an eye on the battery itself ... If it does heat up constantly when charging your battery itself could be on its way out .. the battery will start bulging in the centre if there is a problem with it ...

Luckily no battery bulges yet, it doesn't really get hot when charging, the JasJar just feels slightly warmer, I think it's still ok, but will keep an eye on it .

PS: I haven't actually used 3G yet on the JasJar - my current network operator does not have a 3G network, but thanks to MNP I should be able to switch networks and keep my pre-paid number .

Well I started charging the battery at about 12:00 [pm] and it finished charging within the last 30 minutes or so ~17:00, so about 5 hours to charge, but this time I left wifi and 2G switched on...​
