Hi

I've heard that apparently if telkom can't give you the line performance etc that it promises on adsl they will give you a 3g sim to use in the interim until the issue is resolved. Has anyone managed to get this? Is thete a telkom rep on here who can advise?

Not true.

If you are in a non-ADSL area or where there has been high rates of cable theft, Telkom will offer you a FLLA service.

The costs are different, very different.

I just realised this while trying to set up ADSL at my place. It sucks big time. Is there absolutely no way to get them to install the necessary infrastructure? The press really sold this as a positive thing, but essentially it excludes a lot of people, often in areas where there's high cable theft, and the alternative options are really pricey (~R700 PM for Uncapped Wireless with Telkom vs R350 pm for uncapped ADSL with a regular ISP).

Hey MickeyD, what on earth are you referring to / What does FLLA stand for?

You cannot just proceed to setup ADSL anywhere --- the first step is to find out if ADSL is available in the exchange serving your area, then to establish if the cabling is suitable for delivering ADSL and at what grade.
