Hi all, I'm in the Midrand area and I've been using Rain fixed LTE through Afrihost for the last couple of years. Rain has become increasingly unreliable, and the less said about Afrihost's "support", the better. My choice is between Telkom and Supersonic/MTN for fixed LTE. I'm kinda leaning towards Supersonic because Telkom. Any recommendations/comments?

Webafrica Telkom

And here is why

Telkom fixed LTE is not really fixed to one tower.
Webafrica got great month to month on Telkom Fixed as well as the uncapped package.

Supersonic MTN is really fixed to one location.

Thanks for the reply, but a) I'm a "Never Webafrica" person and b) I'm perfectly happy with one tower, provided the service is good.

Been lots of complaints recently about Telkom fixed-LTE. Supersonic as a company are horrible but the MTN LTE is far superior to Telkom

Oky let me explain my setup

I've currently got the following running on my network

Supersonic 150GB fixed MTN
Webafrica Uncapped Telkom
Webafrica 440GB Telkom
Vodacom Business LTE fixed 300GB (also not fixed to one tower)
RAIN Uncapped R250 package

Im just going to focus on Supersonic here

I've waited the LONGEST for Supersonics delivery
The LONGEST for activation
Also not very good support but the whatsapp support chat system helps alot.

I recently moved offices and had to re register on a new tower which took 4 days.

So all and all Supersonic is good if its up and running.

* Webafrica is also cheaper per GB than Supersonic

Vodacom Business LTE is cheapest per GB on the LTE market

Its not that Ive been with a lot of companies. It's that Im currently with almost all LTE ISP companies. So just ask me anything you want to know.

How is the Webafrica LTE 440Gb for you? I am considering to take that to replace our ADSL

Apologies. I see this is MyBroadband.

For gaming my comparison is I found much better performance running my LTE with a Huawei B525 or Huawei B618

So I've now got the following packages running on LTE now

1. Rain - ya know (no failover)

2 Webafrica - Fixed LTE Telkom Uncapped (failover 3G, works without any LTE coverage on Telkom 3G coverage)

3 Supersonic - Fixed MTN LTE (no failover)

4. Axxess - Telkom's latest sim only deals 220+220 (Webafrica also offers it, failover 3G)

5. Vodacom Business LTE Fixed. Cheapest by far and they install within this week.

6. Openweb??

Anyone have any experience with Openweb LTE packages.

I see they have an Uncapped LTE package @R1499 and they provide higher speeds and a higher FUP.
Up to 12Mbps until 200GB, then up to 6Mbps until 350GB, then up to 3Mbps for the rest of the month

Although I have coverage LTE-A on Telkom, MTN and Vodacom they said they don't have coverage for me.

Who is their provider and does anyone have an Openweb LTE Package?

Speed average tests of 1 hour intervals (Upington Northern Cape)

1. 22down 18up
2. 10down 10up
3. 34down 12up
4. 78down 33up
5. 34down 22up
6. ?

My point is the speeds are location dependant of course.

But my ping on each network was better with nothing older than the B525.

B315 is not recommended for online gaming on LTE

Also note

No failover on MTN Fixed LTE.
Webafrica Telkom failover to Telkom 3G

You mentioned that Vodacom Business LTE fixed installs within a week. What are they installing - don't they just courier you a sim card like the others?

Oh yes, the do now

The first month of launch they installed it.

Now they ship it with a very complex instruction manual and emails you the manual.

Basically you get the router, sim and modem

So the sim installs in the modem usb stick and plugs into the router.
First time power up takes about 10minutes before internet is up and running.

Mobile internet has 4G and now talking about 5G, well the sad news is that I do not even have LTE in my area, so how do they advance in one area and not the other.
Strangely as you will see on the attached file I seem to be between two LTE boundaries, therefor I have no Telkom LTE.
So my question is what is Telkom doing about it, why a blank area on coverage map .OR IS THIS MAP NOT ACCURATE? Has Telkom not seen the coverage map in Parys or not bothered, surely I am not the only person who want more internet speed, is Parys one of those out of sight, out of mind areas where things will happen when it happens.
Telkom is talking about sending copper to the grave yard, well this seems to be a wait and see game until Telkom does some ting about it

So here is the explanation

With coverage maps it's very difficult to be accurate and to update them accordingly

So with Telkom they play it safe

They reduce their coverage zones to be sure no client can complain about coverage.

For example

I've had several cases where the coverage maps didn't show coverage of LTE but worked perfectly.

In detail I've had cases where the client was 1km furthest from the closest coverage according to maps and it had full reception and never had case vice a versa.

So all the coverage maps you see including MTN and Webafrica and Vodacom and Vox are reduced range to play it safe

I'd say get someone's contract to test it in Parys where you stay.

Or get a month to month from Webafrica sim only Telkom deal.

No claw back if you cancel

Thanks for this note, I can contact Axxess and try a month to month but I will have to buy a modem for LTE

At first with initial coverage check if you want sign up with Webafrica they don't let you order if your address doesn't fall within the coverage zone.

So I used a random address which falls within coverage just to get past that step and after that I used my legitimate address to complete order.

I've helped 100's of clients sign up this way now.

Just a matter of concern, I was told that Telkom mobile / LTE signal is not to bright in country areas, can you give your opinion on this through your experience. Thanks Keith

The reception isn't great but the speeds are very good because there is no strain on the network.

My ISP is axxess and I found that MTN has LTE coverage in my area so I am thinking of connecting with axxess on MTN network,
