Ok, so over the past few months I have been posting various topics about: How my portable HDD won't work, my USB Flash Disk restarts my PC when I plug it in, I think my PSU is dying, I think my USB Controller drivers are corrupt..my Bios is corrupt...You get the picture

Well I fixed it;)..finally (can you believe it ...a Luser like me :))

What I have is an Asrock 775S61 motherboard. Here's how:

1. I downloaded the mbo manual.
2. I found a page where the USB, PS2 and PWR jumpers are discussed.
3. I compared the position of the jumper on the diagram to the jumper on the mbo.
4. The Jumper on the diagram said USB&PS/2 my Jumper showed USB&PWR.
5. The USB&PS/2 jumper allows the board to provide power to the USB as well as PS/2 decvices.
6. The USB&PWR jumper allows the USB device to "wake" up the PC and stores 5V.
7. I remember changing the jumper about a year ago to the USB&PWR psotion. I had bought a keyboard that allowed you to wake up the device andit only would work if I set the jumpers that way and changed the setting in bios to allow USB devices to wake up the PC. Needles to say it was carp keyboard and I soon swopped it for a cool nviga....but I never changed back the jumper or reset the bios.
8. Well thats what I did. I put the jumper back to USB&PS/2 and removed the CMOS battery (restore default)..waited 10 minutes. Inserted battery. Restarted machina and ..
9. viola, all devices working perfectly, USB HDD, Flash disks, camera's printers, keyboard mouse..
10. Rig running stable now since 23h00 last night, no events, no restarts...FIXED.

Comments please BOFH's? :o

You can't pat yourself on the back for a problem you created yourself. :D

Well done, memory lapse is a terrible condition.

lol well done, you should be proud of yourself :)

Well done
Maybe you can give me some tips with my USB ports. I just get my PC to recognise a USB printer, no matter what I try. Worse still, is that after un-installing all USB controllers etc, now it wont recognise my USB web cam.
Everything was working fine until I tried the USB printer.
Driving me mad!
