Fixing a tracking ball - BB Bold 9000

The tracking ball gets stuck and can only move left or right; not up or down.

Would this likely be caused by dust ?

Is this something that one can easily fix oneself, or should it be taken in for reparirs ?

Had the same problem - if you're close to vodaworld or somewhere they can swop out the mechanism do that as its covered under warranty. For me that's not a viable option so I cleaned it with alcohol (as pure as I could get) and a cotton bud. A liberal application and some rolling managed to fix it to 95% which is good enough for now.

I took mine to MTN and it took 2 months to get it fixed. The eventually just gave me a new BOLD. But you can try to clean our trackball with alcohol and a ear-bud. A few people on this forum has done it that way

get a clean sheet of printer paper,place on flat surface and rub the trackball VIGOROUSLY on the paper, works well in most cases.

I tried removing and cleaning my trackball. Was a damn mission and got the ball to work smoother for the most part, but the side that wasn't working before still didn't work. Took my phone to a Vodashop and they just swapped my trackball for another one and now it has no hassles. Left it with them overnight.

I'm surprised - usually with a Bold this voids the warranty.

my trackball on 8900 is giving me problems... i like the paper idea.. i should take it to vodaworld, but dont feel like leaving my BB there overnight..
