I recently purchased a set of logitechs Z506's and set them up to my Asus P6T X58 chipset motherboard, I noticed that whenever I play sound from a lowish quality source such as youtube and even some of my windows sounds I get a crackling/distortion/buzzing/interference type sounds which just makes it sound horrible. What's most likely to be causing this? The boards onboard sound shouldn't be that bad surely?

Thanks

Plugging my roccat cave set in it sounds a bit better but I wouldn't say perfect.

If the source is poor quality then it's quite normal to hear crackling. Do higher quality codecs and bitrates have the same effect? If not, then there's nothing that you can do about it - the source is *** and there is no upscaling a *** source...

And have you tried plugging the Logitechs in to a different source? Does it still make the crackling, etc noises?

Playing MP3's sound quite good whereas the window sounds and youtube sound bad.

I'll try stereo with my laptop, thanks.

windows sounds are very low quality as with some youtube videos as well, have you tried playing around with the equalizer? Updating sound drivers should be necessary as well. I'ved had the similar problem with my logitech x530's, getting the equalizer and sound configuration right in the onboard sound utility should do you good.

Downloaded new drivers from realtek, windows sounds still sound horrible, mp3's and a movie I tested work nicely, some youtube videos still horrible too. What type of sound configuration changes do you recommend I start looking at?

I had that kind of issue when my Windows colour scheme was set to Basic and not Standard (with Aero effects).

Also check the bitrate of the audio. It could be that the conversion from 48kHz to 44.1KHz is bad with that motherboard.
