Flac car player

I got the logitech x 530 postman, didn't go with divoom but i hear what you are saying.

I was at esquire and i was about to buy the most xonar but i thought better of it until i had more info and got the cheapie. I don't want headphones because my ears flutter after a long session of music and gaming which i am beginning to think could be a bad sign LOL.

I saw those asus headphones as well, 1.8k ex vat. They looked insane.

Yeah also entry level, better than Divoom though.

What you mean flutter?

Yeah, Sennheiser headset. And the sound card is very similar to the Essence.

Coming back to something in the car, Parrot (them of the AR Drone) have their own Android head unit that may prove capable: the ASTEROID

Not sure how to explain it but after a long session with headphones it feels like my ears drums are opening and closing really quick, that is the only way i can describe it :D.

Probably because of crap headphones and/or playing too loudly? I can't really understand why you'd get that, is there perhaps a term/Wiki for it?

I don't even feel my Sennie HD595 on my head/ears. Use them every day for at least 5 hours, sometimes 10+ hours.

Yea look it could be too loud but i like it loud, not sure if these is description but i have always used phones, from gym to home and so on and i reckon i am damaging my ears now. I got some good info here though thanx :D.

Gym? I think you mean _ear_ phones?

Terrible pain from them too.

It seems ipod's don't play them, they must be converted into mp3 320 which is pointless because you lose the quality surely?

No human could tell the difference. In a car you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the flac and a 128kb/s MP3 encoded with LAME 3.98+ for 99% of songs.

If you really believe you have super hearing you can encode at ~192kb/s and it really isn't possible to hear the difference (not for a human anyway).

Note however that it depends on what MP3 encoder you use. I just know some idiot is going to post about how he can hear the difference when encoded with super duper mp3 encoder exxxtreme. LAME is the best encoder and that is what you should use.

LAME mp3 encoder guide: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=LAME

Hydrogenaudio (basically THE scientific community when it comes to audio) rates LAME with the setting -V3 (~175 kbps) as transparent in most cases. Transparent means that during double blind tests no-one was able to identify the difference betweent he original and the MP3. And those people test with audio equipment that FAR outstrips ANY car sound.

How would one go about getting this :p

Wait a few months, they're still trying to get rid of their Windows CE stock from what I've read. Also, it seems like they're only catering for the E46 BMW. So you'll need to get one of those too if you don't have one :D

Reminds me of the coathanger vs. Monster cable scandal:

FLAC is quality assurance because there are few standards when it comes to MP3 ripping and most are crap, hence why people think FLAC is so much better. It's a very broad statement and true mostly because of poor MP3 rips. But then again you even get poor FLAC rips.

Except that people actually convince themselves they can hear the difference (maybe they can because they use inferior encoders). But in a car, hell no. That doesn't even compare to a Hi-Fi so no point going for Flac.

Agree 100%

Hence my recommendation of Lame, it's the best so you shouldn't have any trouble.

So i have an mp3 player in car, what can i buy that i can in aux mode for flac files?

Itunes sell flac so i would assume an ipod but i want something on the cheap for this.

I download FLAC albums and then convert them into the ALAC format, which is Apples lossless format and then put them on an ipod. I use a tool called Max to do this on a Mac - it works beautifully. One thing however, you mentioned you want to connect via AUX. This on its own will degrade the quality of the sound, and in my opinion, make using FLAC unneccessary. I beleive if you want to see the true benefit of FLAC, you would want to use a digital connection.

I have a Pioneer headunit with an ipod connection and 4V preouts. These are then connected to a JL Audio XD600/6 amp which powers my splits and JL Audio 12W1V2 subwoofer. I think you should address your connection issue before worrying about FLAC.

Slap Rockbox on your iPod and your good to go with flac. Best thing I ever did on my old 30G iPod video. You get to kiss itunes goodbye too, bonus.

Very good point! Didn't really think of it from that POV

I wish there was support for the latest gen iPod (160gb), does anyone know if this affects the way that proprietary adaptors talk to the iPod? ie. If I had this would it still work like an iPod in my i20 which supports the device natively.
