I have been seening a lot of intermittent DNS failures the last few days, even to sites like telkomsa.net & google.com

Just called Support while this was happening & they suggested I change the get "DNS Server from ISP" to manually entered ones (the techie could not even ping the standard ADSL ones)

changed to manual

196.43.1.14&11

Works like a charm !

According to the techie, these are higher level, Higher spec machines on the SAIX backbone.

I find it strange that Telkom seems to be unaware of such a fundamental problem ?

Well a few weeks ago I had to tell SAIX to please flush the cache on the Rosebank DNS servers. We changed one of our domains, and 1 month later, ADSL users were still being directed to the old records (The TTL on the domain... 1 Day). So they had to manualy remove the domain from their cache.

I had a similar problem. I couldn't browse a single site for nearly 30 minutes. Funny thing though, i could resolve the domain names, but the Telkom’s transparent proxy couldn't. i phoned tech support and after being transferred about 5 times and holding on for another 5 minutes, I spoke to a "techie". The guy told me that I should clear my cache and that they do not have a transparent proxy! I laughed at the guy and even gave him the ip of the proxy, but he still didn't believe be. He said that they have a test ADSL line which he would dial up with and test it. After 5 minutes he came back and said everything was working fine and the problem had to be on my side. I refreshed the page and then suddenly it worked!
