Answer: WE SUCK
South Africa wants to be known as the nation in Africa. We are a developing nation I admit but we are cut off
If we aren't the known for the top platinum producing nation, we are know for the top crime nation.
Invade this nation on a Friday night is my answer because all communication to the rest of the planet is cut off.
WHY? you ask.
No one knows.
COMMUNICATION
Thats the answer
THERE IS NONE
Vodacom you are the baest but please CONFORM

If you posted the above to message to make comprehensible sense, you have failed

Typical reply
I have two brothers abroad- one in Hong Kong and one in London
Our communication does not even come close to what they have. If not, let us be known (at least in Africa) for the top in what we have in terms of a dependent networking infrastrucure

It's not a typical reply, it's a reply asking for something comprehensible. If you are fed up with 3G/HSDPA get ADSL ;)

No I won't. I really think Vodacom does a great job. Add to that Im on the move quite a lot. A lot of people from other nations across the globe look to this forum for good advice and there are lots of links to this site. So im not dissing this site. But please SA get with the program. WE ARE BEHIND and we have to admit that. Someone please tell me why

ADSL is not all its cracked up to be. But I do digress, the initial comments are not quite to the point, there is no general direction or sense.

Crashi, what is it thats the biggest problem for you (trust me, we most probably agree)?

Thats why rpm started this site! But merely saying we are behind is not very constructive. Give us your opinion! Give us some advice. Don't mumble in vagaries...

Ive done absolutely everything Vodacom has to offer and asked me to do. New Modem, is this enabled ,is that enabled and so on. But where can we get stuck in respect to international standards. Thats all I want to know. Is it a distance problem or what.

Well, yes and no. Distance will always ensure our latency is a bit buggered, but it can be much better (you will get similar from some European countries to the US). However bandwidth and speed is a problem due to the short-sightedness of this government (they have a real problem with future planning). This should hopefully alleviate with the introduction of all the new submarine cables. However, I shouldn't expect marvellous latency to the US under 100-150ms.

The best thing we can do now is hang on and hope for a great ride (Seacom lands next year!).

Ill be waiting in anticipation, or rather us all. Like I said frustration does creep in every now and then. I didnt mean to be so forward but questions need to be answered, and this forum gave me just that.
Go underwater cables

Dude crashi am writing to you and sipping on a K`dubs in other words a nice 10 year old KWV brandy(i think you are to young to drink).

When i read your 1st post i thought i was gesuip because what i was reading did not make sense to me.BUT like before and i reiterate in order for you to get better speed better value for money.

Telkom has to conform to bringing down their k!k prices, remember in order for you to get 1.8 3.6 etc.Telkom has to provide the back haul capacity to allow for the faster speed at the moment they are charging vodacom and vodacom is charging you.

So write a letter to telskommel tell them how you feel or maybe your daddy knows someone who knows someone....

Yup still at the end of the day, Telkom is providing almost all bandwidth... vaffanculo bastardo!

ADSL VS 3G

It's a joke here in south africa yes. and we are the only country in the world where 3G out runs our landline speeds. i mean when HDSPA 1.8 came out telkom's fastest was 1mbps. then they pushed it to 4mbps. then we had HSUPA 1.4 uplink which telkom can not match i mean adsl max uplink at the moment is 512kbps. Now what will happen when Vodacom has HSDPA 7.2? how are telkom going to match. it is a joke. Telkom network is to old and they never seem to do upgrades. They just stay with there old outdated systems.... What will happen when Vodacom & MTN self-provide 100%? the speeds will go through the roof! and telkom will be left in a ball of dust. I feel that once MTN & Vodacom have most of there base stations on there own fibre network prices will drop and there system will more relaible not to mention that we might reach there speeds they offer due to there backhaul being able to handle the load. You go MTN & Vodacom. I sent one PM to V3G and all my problems where sorted out! they found that there was a problem with the base station and corrected it. Vodacom also kept me up to date every minute as to what was happening.

Out
C 4 urself

IMHO ADSL is all it's cracked to be.

I've used 3G and HSDPA and it's not the same as ADSL.

Firstly, the cost of bandwidth on ADSL is the sole reason I vouch for it. I can buy prepaid gigs and pay R70 for it on ADSL, there's local and international bandwidth, the choice is yours.

You can't find that on mobile networks.

We can say Telkom's network is "old" and "slow", but do you realise that South Africa, in particular Telkom, with all their issues, has had some of the "fastest" ADSL roll out in the world?

Think about it. I'm not talking about how long Telkom took to give you a port or how long they took to install and activate your ADSL service, I'm talking about the greater South Africa.

Due to my own privacy I won't mention in which town I live, but we have 4mbps ADSL for a little tourist town with most businesses being restaurants or large retail stores. Not a small city by any means, but big enough to cater for a few thousand people each month.

ADSL and the way forward on it has too many benefits which don't get mentioned. It took Telkom roughly 6 years for this massive distribution of ADSL on their exchanges and since they have the technology in place at the moment, it's just a fact of upgrading their sites to cater for ADSL2+ etc.

ADSL2+ with new algorithms and cheap hardware being developed is capable of speeds that HSDPA in 10 years would NOT be able to achieve. Search for the articles here on this forum and prove me otherwise.

Only reason I despise Telkom is even though they are less expensive than MTN or Vodacom, they are still expensive and prices should be cut.

;)
