My dad brought home a flash stick from work and asked me to take a look at it, its an AVAYA 1 gig flash stick, it lets you copy stuff on but then you disconnect and reconnect it and the data is gone...Any ideas why it would do that?

Have tried:
Format as Fat, Fat32 and NTFS
Remove Safely
Scandisk (has an error)

Thanx in advance

It's most probably damaged, and consider 1g flash drives cost around R90 - R110 these days you'd be hard pressed to invest too much time trying to repair it.

I had the same problem with my 128meg stick , so I bought me 1 gig stick.
The problem was with the drivers and the pc, my 128meg lost data after I copied to it from a bad usb driver machine. What OS are you running?
Try installing the driver from the manuf. disc and then see what happens.

i dont have the drivers cd & I've tried XP and Vista Ultimate

does no one know that a flash memory product has a limited lifespan.Get him another please,Search the net you will see that there is a limit to writing and deleting on flash drives.
i will go with buying a new one,but if you insist play with the copy protect tab or switch a bit, this might fix da problem

Possibility. That's if it has a copy protect switch, because my 1gig Transcend stick don't have one.

Ya it has one but I'm not too worried about it getting fixed, buying a new 1 is way easier :P

Yipee, get the 4 or 8 gig one.Transcend or Kington are the best, don't trust any other brands.

i have a sahara flash stick 1gig and it is 3 years old, maybe evenmore old.i cant remember but it costed me like 400 rand at the time.
So what can i say its not a fancy name but it still works hey.

Ya, now that you mentioned it ,my Sahara 128meg stick is still going strong but it looks like ****, after all these years of hard labour, Add Sahara to the list S1ght.

Next time buy a better brand. Sandisk have a great one out soon/now called the Cruzer CONTOUR (4G or 8G only). Guaranteed for 5 years I think.
