this usually happens with bluetooth devices. it's just a setting that you need to set. at the moment, it's "Optimised for quick removal" and not "Write combining" or something to that effect. just go to the properties of the device and you will see these options there and you can set it from there.
thanks but it was a new flash drive, as soon as i took it out of the packaging and plugged it iin, it didn't show up under safely remove hardware. the safely remove hardware icon is not in the system tray either, I had to type C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll in the run dialog box to access it.
i think you need to go to the properties of the drive, as i mentioned earlier and change its properties. if that doesn't work then i don't know. i had a problem with my bluetooth device recently where it said that the device was not recognised, but Windows would allow it to work when it felt like. i basically just tossed it one side and bought a new bluetooth device. is your system up to date with drivers etc...?
