Hi guys I need some help.
I found an amazing website that lets you build a flash website online.
Only problem is you cannot save it and have to actually use their servers to host your site.

Surely there is some software for a noob like me to design it and host it where I like?
This is the site:
http://www.wix.com/

Thanks guys

Hey Marine I don't think there was a lot of users online last night being that it was friday. I don't think what you trying to do is possible.

My I give you some advice though. Don't use free things like wix. It's really unprofessional. Another thing is that sites using flash are not the best option. If possible I would suggest you hire someone to create your site in html and use some jquery for the flash effects.

You should not build your business from free things. It makes your business look cheap. Think of it this way. Would buy something from a shop that has a quick painted sign on the door or a shop that has had their logo printed on their door? It's those small things that make a business look for professional.

As for flash. Well like I said there are a number of reasons not to use flash. The most important reason not to use it is because it takes longer to load then normal sites. I personally never wait more then 10 seconds for a web site to load. Also flash requires that everyone has the flash plugins enabled on their browser which not everyone does.

I will be more then happy to give you some more advice if you still having doubts.

I did my website with them. See my signature. I want to move away from it and have it properly developed.

Well it would probably be easier for me to remember instead of the Letterland my kids are being taught. :D

like Linux.

Sorry Ethan - just hassling. I do agree with your philosophy, actually. But I need to point out that it needs to be qualified. Many people build online businesses using "free" tools like CMS blogs and associated stacks. But I do get your point. And ++ on the flash...

To be completely honest. I've seen some major poor "developed" websites which people are charged thousands for, especially over here where I live. These free flash sites like mercurial's is more functional and a million times more attractive than those I've seen.

Flash' draw back is SEO, which is a biggy if you really want to market online, but giving your site out to friends or word of mouth I see no harm in it.

I understand what both you guys are saying about the free vs developed.

@GreGorGy There are tons of systems like cms programs to help you develop your site. I was referring to the final version of your site should not be based off free things. Like I hate free wordpress themes but I love wordpress. Granted their are some really amazing free themes however you want your brand to look different.

A nice example a found was http://www.capetownalive.co.za/ and http://www.uctradio.co.za/ . They both use joomla which is awesome but they both also use the same free joomla template. It's really not cool to be seen using the same free theme as some other company.

@teraside It depends on the developer of course. Fair enough the make a free site type sites such as wix and 50megs could turn out better then some developers. The problem comes in when clients don't know enough to pick these things up. For every **** developer there is a good developer.

This is why I created my site http://pixelbright.co.za There is to many people being tricked into paying **** loads for **** sites. I hope with my site I will be able to give good advice on what to avoid in the web design and development industry.

@marine1 You asked if I have seen the sites created by wix. I have but the problem is not wix itself its the fact that they use flash and that using free things like that is not always the best option. Rather just hire someone to develop a site for you. Just make sure the person you hire is trust worthy.
