I would like to get fellow web developers opinions on the following:

1. As a web development company will you still recommend a flash site to a potential client ?
2. How do you compare flash with html5 and jquery ?
3. SEO wise what would be your alternative to flash ?

I know flash has always been issue with browser support etc .... But too be honest I have seen some really cool sites done in flash and although this is all possibly in new web technologies how would one measure this up

Having been on both sides of the fence (I do not do flash, though), yes, there are really nice things you can do with a flash site, it's quite capable and generally really responsive. On the other side, it is really not suited to people browsing with slow connections - when I had a 384 line it was horrible to open a site and watch the percentage climb... slowly.

So true and to tell the user he/ she has to download a flash player for their browser and they like ... Umm whats a browser

Pure flash site with payment gateway etc

I just wonder why they would not go for a more SEO friendly approach although google adwords can still work but organic search is dead

That site can easily be done in html 5 and jquery

Yes, quite true. Flash issues also pop up (version-wise or otherwise) and is also limited when browsing from a phone.

But design an up-to-date jquery site and having to tell your client that "no, the website will not work for you, because you're using IE6" is also a really big downside. But that's when I tell them to get with the times.

Yeah good old IE 6 anyway web and windows development will always have issues

I personally do not like flash, especially due to the reasons mentioned by byron - Yet, I just took the plunge and launched a flash business card generator service. I want to see if the site could pick up in future...
