Just tried to start the car and no go, just a click click click noise.

Then I remembered I turned the the roof light on a day or two ago and when I checked now it's still on
Htf did I not notice it? Why did I not just open the door to turn the light on?
Times like these that I get very pissed off at myself.

lol :)

enjoy pushing or jumping it :p

I am lucky to have some sort of miracle battery, I often forget to switch my car lights off and have left my lights on for the whole day, and it still starts perfectly.

I live halfway up a mountain, bump starting is easy as the driveway is on a downward slope to the front gate and then I have about 1.5KM's of brick road before the main road to get it started (all downhill).

The only issue is if you don't get it started by the bottom of the road.

Driveway unfortunately is on a slight incline to the road but once in the road it's all downhill for about 2km. Never had it not start on the first release of the clutch in 2nd or 3rd gear.

I just can't see myself pushing it up the driveway, will have to call a friend.

What car? and what make of battery / model?

I had the same happen to me a month or 2 ago. The Battery was completely dead afterwards. Some fancy Silver Nitrate battery. It basically just died overnight. :(

Hahahhaha, this is soooo funny!!!! I did exactly the same thing 2 weeks ago.... Damn, I dunno how I managed to do it either. What car you drive?

I cannot believe that people still own cars that do not switch off the lights for you. Then again a cab light is probably another story, but I think the car should cut the power to it if the voltage drops too much or after an hour or so after the engine has been switched off.

You would think that a secondary battery would be in order to resolve this age old issue. The secondary battery is used exclusively for the ignition system, with the primary battery handling everything else, with both batteries being charged by the alternator.

Dual battery systems will add significantly to the cost of the car because its not just a matter of plonking in another battery. But your concept is a good one. I still think that if my car can switch of the radio after one hour of using it without the key in the ignition then it should do the same with all other power sucking things like the cab light.

Both brilliant ideas, unfortunately both add to the cost of the vehicle. And, given how many cars are made (cost multiplied per vehicle) and how many people actually forget lights ons it's probably not worth it.

But this makes nice room for an aftermaker accessorym though. Would be dead easy to build, but not every person will be able to install it (or want to, seeing that it m ay have a warrantee issue).

Dual battery systems work well in 4x4s and these are typically buyers that have time and money to install such systems with the complex wiring and switch over electronics required to have multiple batteries running off one alternator.

In normal cars will no doubt add cost and also weight (fuel cost). In my car you cannot leave the lights on, they are switched off when you remove the key from the ignition. If you leave the key in the ignition with the lights on and the engine off the car moans as soon as you open the door. You can use the radio while the car is switched off but only for an hour, then its switched off. I think this logic should be applied to the cab light and other power draining things too. Its pretty cheap electronics that does this and its a relatively cheap car it is fitted to.

Well you do know not all of us have either new cars or expensive older cars right? nor could some of us afford it :wtf: But if you feel so strongly about it please feel free to sponsor me a car :p:D

The worst is when you get a car from the carpool and then you forget the lights on because you have become lazy in you fancy pancy new car... that is embarrassing.

Honda. Dixon battery.

It was the interior roof ligh which has a On/Door/Off switch. For some stupid reason I moved it to On, if it was on Door it would have gone off when I closed the door.

Still feel like an egit though.

Anyhow it started first time when connected via jumper leads to a mates car.
